LAUCHERT- Mary Louer

of Hamburg, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 15 at the age of 72. Her final days were spent in the company of friends and family, who traveled from around the country to share in her final hours. Mary was a beautiful soul who touched the lives of everyone she met. To know Mary was to adore her, as her generosity and grace were unmatched. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend and teacher, who gave tirelessly of herself until the very end. A devout Catholic, she lived out her values of generosity, patience, and kindness through worship and service to the community in countless ways.

Born Mary Patricia O’Donnell in Buffalo, NY, she was the eldest of eight children. After graduating from East Aurora High School she attended SUNY Oswego where she pursued her love of languages and spent time studying in Puerto Rico, Peru, and Spain. In 1973 she met Kevin Louer and was drawn to his sense of humor and culinary skills, which matched her own love of laughter and food. They married in Syracuse in 1976 and later moved to Clinton, NY where they raised four daughters and made exceptional friends who remained connected to Mary until her final days.

Mary loved learning, pursuing a Masters in Education at Syracuse University while raising three girls and pregnant with her fourth. She believed you were never too old to pursue your dreams, and returned to school again in her 60s to obtain a certificate in early childhood education. Mary ended her teaching career as a preschool teacher at Nativity of Mary School. Mary was lucky enough to get a second chance at love in 2007 when she married Gary Lauchert. Together their desire was to blend their families through memorable life experiences. They enjoyed traveling, camping, attending sporting events, volunteering, and hosting family gatherings.

Mary is survived by her husband Gary Lauchert, daughters Libby Louer, Katie Louer (Viral Sheth), Amy Louer, Andie Louer (Kenan Hodzic), stepchildren Elizabeth (Thomas) Bard, Bradley Lauchert, Alexander Lauchert; grandchildren Addison and Kevin Thompson, Serena Sheth, Harrison and Cynthia Bard; siblings Mark (Kathy) O’Donnell, Patrick (Diane) O’Donnell, Anne O’Donnell (John Phillips), Margaret (Bob) Verhayden, Joe (Barb) O’Donnell, Teresa (Zeek) Zellem, and Dan O’Donnell; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents Richard and Roseanne O’Donnell, her beloved aunt Dorothy O’Donnell, and late husband Kevin Louer. She will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew her. The family will received friends on Monday November 20th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at LOOMIS, OFFERS & LOOMIS, INC. HAMBURG CHAPEL 207 Main Street. A mass of Christian burial will be celabrated on Tuesday morning 9:15 AM at Our Lady of Victory Basilica Lackawanna, NY (please assemble at church) In lieu of flowers please donate to Saints Peter & Paul Parish Outreach Center, 36 Pine Street, Hamburg, NY 14075.
